just interested what people do about stone chips on the front of their vans. i mean the ones to the aframe and the stabilizer jacks. i have been painting them over after each trip but was thinking about maybe using some of that spray on stone guard like on the front of cars. i have the stone guards on the back of the patrol but you still get some through, any comments please.

Sounds like a full width mudflap may be what you need Shane.

Made mine (don't use it all the time though) out of 6mm "belt rubber" from Clark's.

Saw a setup that involved shadecloth stretched out under the A-frame that stopped all stones even getting to the A-frame or front of van. Was hooked to the back of the car via occy straps so when he turned the straps stretched in unison with the car.

Cheers, Trevor.

Hi Shane

I have photos of a number of different types of shadecloth stone guards different caravaners have designed and made, as well as of our rubber extended mud guards. If you are interested, member message me with your email address.

Hi Shane,

I ordered a mudflap system from the US called RockTamers that slip over the square tube of the hitch and are fully adjustable in width and height.

Have not used them as yet as I am overseas and they are waiting for when I get home. They are not cheap around $550 deliverd to the door here in Oz.

Look on the web site www.mudflaps.com

Cheers

G'day Shane,
I use ORMONOID Bitumen paint. Doesn't chip and can be painted over. Buy it at Bunnings in 1litre or 4 litre cans. It is very thick.

I point out the dings and chips to friends and say "This is our souvenier from Cape York and this chip in the windscreen,,,,"

I am saving them all up for when I eventually get a paint job and bits of panelling or if I sell the old beast I can point out an honest vehicle. Some buyers can be suspicious of a newly painted vehicle. But I had it six years now and 150k km and hope to have running still in another ten years. The older it gets the less nervous I am about scratching it.
